Excerpts
You’ve been in Marathi entertainment for years, exploring TV, theatre, and films. Which medium is the easiest for you? What still challenges you?
Every medium has two facets—technical and practical or performing. In my 18-19 years in the industry, I’ve navigated the realms of web series, theatre, films, and television. The standard trajectory for Marathi actors often includes experimental theatre, professional theatre, television, films, and the emerging OTT platform—a path I’ve traversed as well. If you inquire about what challenges me even today, it’s unquestionably Marathi theatre. Television, on the other hand, demands prolonged dedication, creating a unique challenge of sustaining intensity over an extended period. The routine of performing the same role daily for a minimum of one year, and possibly more, adds a distinctive layer to the challenge in television. While my affection for films, web series, and theatre is apparent, the profound challenge of theatre lies in the art of performance and the intricate process of embodying a character, essentially becoming someone else. Stepping into another person’s shoes to breathe life into a character is the epitome of the challenge that theatre, particularly Marathi theatre, brings. In essence, each medium presents its own set of challenges, but the theater, with its transformative nature, remains the most cherished challenge throughout my journey.
You’re working on Friend Request, a play about social media. What are your real-life thoughts on it?
This theatrical endeavor is a fusion of drama, emotions, light-hearted comedy, relationships, and the realm of social media. Personally, I advocate for a careful and proper usage of social media, considering it is a faceless medium. Recognizing that individuals typically do not know thousands of people personally, the risk involved in accepting friend requests lies in the faceless nature of social media. Trolling, being an inherent faceless activity, further accentuates this risk. Therefore, my cautious approach towards social media involves a commitment to sharing only positive content, even in the face of challenging circumstances like the demise of my guru or mother. I firmly believe in utilizing social media as a platform for spreading positivity, with a conscious effort to inspire others. Despite an increased awareness and usage of social media on my part, I steadfastly adhere to the principle of maintaining positive content and refraining from expressing my political views. This decision is rooted in the recognition that, as a known personality, people may interpret my personal opinions as endorsements, potentially leading to unnecessary complications.
What do you want the audience to grasp about social media from “Friend Request”?
As for the audience takeaway from “Friend Request,” I envision it as a fresh and novel theatrical experience. Having delved into numerous scripts during the past few months, this play stood out, prompting me to not only perform but also produce it. I see this as an opportunity to instigate positive changes in theatre practices, addressing aspects like traditionalism and adapting to the evolving landscape of 2023-2024. The play encompasses a variety of elements, from costume adjustments to altering remuneration practices, introducing a more formalized and contemporary approach. With the formation of a production company and embracing online payment options, I am committed to steering this project with a fresh perspective. The play itself, “Friend Request,” holds allure in its catchy name, attracting a diverse audience, including those unfamiliar with social media jargon, thereby offering a truly engaging and contemporary theatrical experience.
Beyond acting, you’re known for fitness. How do you balance it with demanding roles?
The cornerstone of my fitness journey is rooted in my parents’ unwavering support for physical activities since my college days. Although I had to take a 13-year hiatus to establish myself in the industry, I fully re-engaged with fitness in 2019. My genuine love for working out stems from a desire to execute stunts independently, particularly as an action hero at the age of 45. Health and body are the two constants in life, and my passion for fitness reflects my commitment to preserving these essential aspects.
Your home stay business adds a new dimension. What drove you to hospitality?
If I weren’t an actor, I’d have pursued a career as a chef due to my love for cooking and feeding people. While my initial vision was to establish a large hotel, the home stay is not driven by commercial motives; it’s a tranquil space for relaxation. It’s not about luxury or amenities; nature itself is the amenity I offer. While a formal hospitality business might be on the horizon, for now, this home stay is my gift of nature.
Share your experience working on a Telugu film and whether we can anticipate more appearances in South Indian films.

Their punctuality, integrity, respect, and focused efforts to excel align perfectly with my work ethic. I eagerly anticipate more projects in South Indian cinema.
This profound influence is reflected in my wholehearted portrayal of characters inspired by Maharaj’s life. Just as he believed in “country first,” so do I
Your deep admiration for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj reflects in your film choices. What quality of this great king do you try to embody?
My reverence for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj traces back to childhood, where my mother instilled his values and life lessons through her readings. This profound influence is reflected in my wholehearted portrayal of characters inspired by Maharaj’s life. Just as he believed in “country first,” so do I. As a patriot, I find resonance with the ideals of this great king.
