Sterling Hospitals, Rajkot, a Multispecialty hospital located in the remote area of Saurashtra-Kutch, has achieved a new milestone by opening the first Paediatric Cardiology Department. This department aims to provide the best treatment for heart diseases in paediatric patients. The hospital already houses two state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs, skilled cardiologists, and cardiac surgeons in the cardiology department, along with dedicated operation theatres.
Dr Nihar Pathak, a renowned paediatric cardiologist with extensive experience in treating paediatric heart disease, is the qualified paediatric, fetal, and structural interventional cardiologist in the remote area of Saurashtra. He has successfully treated children with congenital heart defects at the new centre. A young girl from Veraval was diagnosed with a complex congenital disease called patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and was successfully treated with Key Hole Surgery without any major open surgical intervention. The procedure was performed under general anaesthesia by an experienced anaesthetist, Dr. Hetal Vadera, along with a group of experts. The treatment was also made available free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) scheme.
According to Raj Kadecha, Zonal Director, Sterling Hospitals, Rajkot, “The hospital has been providing world-class facilities and state-of-the-art treatment for the past few years. Various procedures for treating congenital heart defects in both adults and children have been successfully provided at Sterling Hospital. These procedures include congenital defect of the heart (VSD / ASD), congenital heart valve diseases, advanced balloon treatment of coarctation of the aorta, pulmonary valvular stenosis and Aortic valvular stenosis and complex treatments such as double chamber pacemaker, AICD, carotid angioplasty, peripheral angioplasty, device closures, and balloon valvuloplasty. These achievements highlight the hospital’s commitment to clinical excellence and making treatments easier for patients.”
In another case, an 8-year-old patient from Godhra who was experiencing low oxygen saturation and shortness of breath was diagnosed with critical pulmonary stenosis (lung duct obstruction). She was successfully treated with a complex procedure via Microsurgery, called BPV (balloon opening the valve), and was discharged on the next day.
In another case, with the advancement in technical feasibility & newer development in medical field. We went ahead and treated a girl who was suffering from a complex congenital lesion with two different defect holes (ASD & VSD) in the heart where she was advised for the open heart surgery, we at Sterling Hospitals, Rajkot took this challenging case and did the microsurgery with two separate devices and discharged her the next day. This could avoid the risk associated with open heart surgery.
