Sudha Chandran who is known for her willpower and resilience will be performing for late Saroj Khan. It will be a tribute to her work in the industry. Sudha Chandran says, “This is an event done by Maithili Kotnis who was quite close to Saroj Khan and used to assist her. She and her late husband had this dream of coming up with a tribute for the great choreographer of our industry Saroj Khan. There will be 3 hours of performance (Main Hoon Bollywood) in which 60-70 dancers will perform on 12th October. I will be performing Sarojji’s first ever choreographed song ‘Nigahen Milane Ko Jee Chahta Hai’. I am excited and thrilled to be part of this tribute. When Maithili called me for this I was not in Mumbai. I got back, met her and we rehearsed. In 4 hours we were done with it, thanks to Maithili who managed the choreography. There was a time during the practice when I became very emotional. I got goosebumps when I visualised Saroj ji is watching us.”
She also adds, “Sarojji came to the industry when choreography was always done by men. She not only found her place but also made her mark over the years. It was immensely challenging but she pulled it off with her hard work and talent. If you look at her work you will notice there is so much detailing - every expression matters in her style. She is also someone who has produced many superstars in the industry right from Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit to Meenakshi Sheshadri - the list is endless. Whether the film has worked or not her songs has been always on the top because of her unique dance steps. She was a magician. The famous song of Sailaab ‘Hum ko aajkal’ which was performed by Madhuri Dixit, Sarojji has choreographed in her unique style.”
The ‘Naache Mayuri’ actor also shares that she has a deep regret of not dancing under Saroj Khan’s direction. She says,”I have been working for so long but never got a chance to work with her. Once I was part of a song which Masterji choreographed. it was a Rajshri film and I was just standing in the song. When I met her I told her how unfortunate I am that not being able to perform to her choreography. I used to tell her how I wish to be scolded by her. I have always learnt steps from her style. For me it is a great opportunity and my turn to give her my tribute. I feel and I pray that the industry should come forward to support this kind of initiative. One should understand that Legends cannot be forgotten.”
