The much-loved show ‘Paru’ has introduced a new character, Sayajirao, the brother of Ahilya Devi. Sunil Barve, a beloved Marathi actor, is making his return to Zee Marathi after 11 years with this role. Expressing his excitement to work with Zee Marathi again, Sunil said, “I’ve always been eager to work with Zee Marathi because it’s a pioneer in the world of Marathi television, and I worked closely with them until 2012. There’s a sense of connection, just like there is with Doordarshan. Since the advent of private channels, Zee Marathi has helped shape the careers of many artists. So, the excitement of working with them again is unique. I’ve received a great response for my role as Sayajirao. When the promo aired, many people said that Narsinha Rao is back. It’s heartening to know that viewers still remember the show ‘Kunku’ and my character from 11 years ago. It made me happy to see that the show and my role are still fresh in people’s minds. When I got the call for the ‘Paru’ show and heard about the role, I was thrilled at the opportunity to do something new. While viewers might be reminded of Narsinha Rao when they see me on screen, Sayajirao is a completely different character. Although he is the leader of the village, he has a soft nature as a person, and this difference gives me energy for the role. Sayajirao is deeply connected to his principles, and his love for his family and sister is evident. He’s a man of great character. However, if he harbors anger towards someone, he doesn’t hesitate to express it and keeps his distance from that person.”
He adds, “Filming in Satara has been a unique experience. When you’re away from home for a shoot, the cast and crew become like family. The fun of working on an outdoor shoot, just like in films, is the same here. The cast of ‘Paru’ is mostly the new generation, and I’m excited to work with them and adapt to their style. There have been significant changes in TV production, and I’m eager to embrace these new methods. Satara itself is a beautiful city. I’ve witnessed four decades in the entertainment industry and seen many changes in television. From technology to perspectives, creativity to marketing dominance, I’ve observed all these developments over the years. The current generation is well-versed in this medium, and their confidence and familiarity in front of the camera are remarkable. It’s a different kind of fun working with them. I’m always keen on learning new things, and I believe change is inevitable and necessary to adapt to. No matter what changes occur, they should be embraced positively. However, it’s important not to lose sight of the primary goal of making shows, films, or any role. I’m looking forward to working with a new team and in a new role in the ‘Paru’ series and can’t wait to meet all of you.”
Don’t forget to watch ‘Paru’ at 7.30pm on Zee Marathi.
