Suraj Berry, son of veteran actor Sudesh Berry, known for memorable works like Border, Sanam Teri Kasam, Army, and television shows including Shakti: Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki and Suraag: The Clue, is now ready to step back into the world of acting after a long break. Reflecting on one of the most important pillars of society, Suraj opens up about the power, potential, and challenges of the youth of India.
Suraj strongly believes that youth are the driving force of any nation. “Youth are the energy that shapes society for a better tomorrow. Their passion and fresh ideas bring real change. But if the youth make a nation, then the nation must also invest in them,” he says.
At the same time, he acknowledges the modern-day struggles they face. With endless information flooding social media and digital platforms, misinformation has become a serious concern. “It’s easy to get misled when you’re surrounded by so many options and distractions. I think placing age restrictions on social media accounts, like countries such as Australia are considering, could help protect young minds from harmful content. Personally, I keep myself away from gossip spaces — I don’t even read much of it (laughs),” he shares.
For Suraj, what Indian youth need most today are “real opportunities to learn, earn, and grow.” He emphasizes aligning education, skills, and jobs with the needs of the future while staying connected to India’s heritage and wisdom.
When asked about icons he looks up to, Suraj finds inspiration across fields — from sports to cinema to entrepreneurship. “Neeraj Chopra, Virat Kohli, P.V. Sindhu, Hrithik Roshan, Nikhil Kamath — I deeply respect their dedication and hard work,” he says.
Suraj also feels proud of how the country’s youth have evolved. From excelling in sports, business, and arts to becoming vocal voices in startups, freelancing, and activism, he believes they are already shaping the nation. “Whether it’s Shark Tank culture or standing up for issues like mental health, gender rights, and climate change, India’s youth are proving they are not just leaders of tomorrow, but also changemakers today.”
