Sunil Barve, under the ‘Herbarium’ initiative, had previously presented 25 performances of classic plays on stage. Among them was the play Suryachi Pille written by Vasant Kanetkar. Each performance of this play was marked by a ‘Houseful’ sign, showcasing the immense love the audience had for it. Due to this overwhelming affection, Suryachi Pille, a three-act play, is once again ready to be staged. The play, produced by Subak and presented by Navneet Publications, will premiere on September 22, with its first performance in Mumbai at the Royal Opera House. This occasion will allow theater lovers to once again experience this Kanetkar classic comedy, which humorously and thoughtfully reflects on life through light-hearted humor.
The play, directed by Pratima Kulkarni, features prominent actors including Anand Ingale, Pushkar Shrotri, Aniket Vishwasrao, Suhas Paranjape, Sharvari Patankar, Umesh Jagtap, Atisha Naik, and Atul Parchure. The music for the play is composed by Ashok Patki, with Sunil Barve and Nitin Bhalchandra Naik serving as producers.
Producer Sunil Barve shared, “14 years ago, under a special initiative, I staged 25 performances of this play. The love and demand from the audience to bring this play back to the stage have led us to present Suryaachi Pille once again. We initially planned to revive this play immediately after the pandemic, but due to some technical difficulties, it was delayed. Now that everything has aligned, we are once again coming back to our audience with this play. Since it’s a classic from an earlier time, we have ensured to preserve its essence and bring it forward with its original script.”
