This birthday is going to be the most special: Somy Ali

Former Bollywood actress and No More Tears NGO founder Somy Ali turns a year older on March 25. She is super excited to celebrate her birthday this year, as she is getting a long-awaited present for herself. She said, “This birthday is going to be the most special birthday, as in order to get my present, I have to fly to another state in the U.S. Other than that, the only reason I would celebrate my birthday was so that in lieu of presents, I would request my friends to donate to No More Tears.”

She mentioned that she is neither a party person nor one who would celebrate her birthday like a teenager and shared that there are many aspects of one’s life that become humorous to oneself and eventually obsolete at some stage, like birthdays. Sharing some deep thoughts, she said, “At least for me, celebrating being born without my will is annoying or aggravating given the condition of our world and its inhabitants. Israel and Palestine. India and Pakistan over Kashmir. The Ukrainians are suffering thanks to Hitler’s replacement being Putin. The caste system is still an actual thing. Women still can’t walk alone at night. Then there is skin discrimination.”

“Hate crimes against our LGBTQ communities. The population has surpassed 8 billion humans, and 99.9% have so many flaws that the divorce rates have skyrocketed. Also, why is there no licence mandatory to give birth? We need one to drive, to own a gun, even a permit to shoot a film at a specific location. But to bring an actual life with zero experience and have the power to love them or abuse them is so incomprehensible to me that I can’t put it in words,” she added. She called herself a pessimist and a realist and also pointed out that to stay relevant, people have to be on social media.

She said, “Not one, but two. One personal and the other professional, so essentially you are schizophrenic on two media forums. It’s all laughable to me because I am one of those who runs an NGO and now a film production company; hence, I am guilty as charged.” “Everyone has skeletons, and no one is a complete saint, and that is the ultimate truth, including myself,” Somy shared.
