Umarah Naushad Ali: It’s easy to allow yourself to feel low

Feeling low, sad and dejected is natural and everyone goes through it. However, legendary music composer Naushad Ali’s granddaughter Umarah Naushad Ali says that what matters is how you bounce back.

“It’s very easy to fall into the trap of negativity, allowing yourself to feel low and defeated. But the important thing is to distract yourself, to force yourself to move on, to motivate yourself to try again!” she says.

Naushad, who is a pastry chef as well as an expert in animation, VFX and 3d interiors, says that she has her ways of feeling better. “Listening to some peppy tunes always helps calm me down, and distract me from the problem at hand. Besides this, I can say that my furry pet is my best friend and acts like therapy when I am upset. Playing with him makes me forget all my worries. Besides this, my friends have always been there for me when I have been at my lowest and my cousins have always been huge pillars of strength. Of course, my husband has always been my biggest morale booster.”

She adds, “Also, there was a time when I used to get really depressed and I use to think of this poetry by Faiz Ahmed Faiz ‘Mujhse Pahli Si Mohabbat…’ which basically talks about how engrossed we are in our own sadness and heartbreak but there is a world out there where people are suffering and our suffering and pain is nothing in front of them. I could feel each and every word of that poetry. Such pieces of literature helps one introspect and grow.”
