Urja Sharma Takes On NE Calgary’s Cleanliness Challenge

Combining social engagement and civic pride, 27-year-old Urja Sharma is making waves in her neighborhood. At 27, she is on a mission to change the way residents of northeast Calgary view cleanliness. With a background in medical studies, hospitality unit clerking, and pharmacy, she combines her passion for community service and her love for socializing and reading into a powerful initiative.

Driven by the desire to uplift her neighborhood, Urja leads a local cleanup project. She says, “I wanted to bring a revolution in NE about awareness of cleaning, to prove we’re great residents of Calgary.” She gathers support through conversations at local events and has already led her team in cleaning areas around 80th Avenue Plaza to Shoppers Drug Mart. While many appreciate her efforts, some remain skeptical, seeing it as an attempt to appease other communities.

Despite challenges such as limited volunteers and the slow backing of influential figures, Urja remains optimistic. The best part? Meeting new people and working with brilliant minds. Through her dedication, she hopes to inspire more Calgarians to take pride in their city’s cleanliness and create lasting change.
