Despite being an actor and having to make numerous public appearances, Yashashri Masurkar says that she is not someone who believes in buying new clothes every time. She adds that she tries to re-use her outfits as much as she can.
“We make up our minds based on what’s served to us on a platter called social media, and the same is true for fashion as well. But I believe in a sustainable lifestyle. I will not buy something until I really need it. I am also trying to reuse clothes so I don’t end up supporting fast fashion, which is difficult given our outfit choices. But I am trying,” she says.
She adds, “Materialistic things are more important to acquire than skills or qualities for so many of us today. We need everything fast- from food to cars to relationships. It’s a sad perspective we have established.”
However, there are few people who are very careful about what they buy, she says, adding, “Our wants are never ending but I have seen and heard about people who really don’t need much. They keep their needs to a minimum so they have control over their life. I am the same. I don’t buy anything that I don’t need. No fancy, glossy stuff that is not of value to me or my lifestyle…I buy quality stuff but only when and what I need.”
Brand collabs on social media might not always give you the right idea about a product, she says, adding, “Most of the time, people promoting it don’t use it on themselves. It’s like an advertisement. Hiring someone to act as if they use the product and love it…it’s pure advertisement. I wonder how people don’t get that.”
