Zee Marathi Becomes the First GEC to Shoot at the iconic Raigad Fort to mark Shiv Jayanti

Commemorating the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, founder of Hindavi Swarajya and one of India’s most revered warrior kings, Zee Marathi’s fiction show Kamali has mounted a special Shiv Jayanti initiative with an on-location shoot at Raigad Fort - the historic capital of the Maratha Empire.

In a significant move within the GEC space, ‘Kamali’ becomes the first Marathi fiction show to film at an actual hill fort, setting a new creative and operational benchmark in heritage-based storytelling. The initiative extends beyond narrative storytelling to meaningful on-ground engagement, incorporating themes of fort conservation, civic responsibility and value-based learning, reflecting a conscious effort to merge entertainment with social awareness.

The key cast members of the show that filmed at Raigad Fort includes Vijaya Babar (Kamali), Nikhil Damle (Rishi) and Ketaki Kulkarni (Anika). The iconic shoot will be weaved into the storyline to narrate that, Kamali (Vijaya Babar) shares a deep admiration for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and initiates the study tour to create awareness among today’s generation about his vision, leadership and legacy.

Sharing her experience, Vijaya Babar said, “Shooting at Raigad Fort for a Shiv Jayanti special episode was a deeply humbling experience. Portraying a story rooted in Swarajya at such a historically significant location filled us with immense pride. We have grown up learning about the legendary warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and being able to bring that spirit alive at Raigad fort itself was truly special. As actors, we were mindful that we were representing not just characters, but a legacy that holds deep emotional value for millions.”

Commenting on the milestone, VR Hema, Chief Channel Officer, Zee Marathi & Marathi Z5, said, “The Shiv Jayanti special episodes of our fiction show Kamali, shot at Raigad Fort, reinforce Zee Marathi’s commitment to delivering culturally rooted yet ambitious storytelling. As the first Marathi fiction show to shoot at a historic fort of such stature, we have set a new benchmark for the industry. Such initiatives come with responsibility, when you open a path for the rest of the industry, it must be done with sensitivity, authenticity, and due respect to heritage. At Zee Marathi, we believe impactful storytelling must be rooted in culture, and this is a step in that direction.”
